Horse Sense IP Program on May 8 in Spencer

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts is hosting a Horse Sense Program on Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at Camp Marshall in Spencer for Cadette, Senior, & Ambassador Scouts. Juliette Scouts in grades 6-12 may also register. Troops and individual Scouts may register. Troops must adhere to safety wise rules. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.
PROGRAM: Work towards your Horse Sense IP in this super-fun horse program! Scouts will learn horse safety, standard horse etiquette, grooming and leading a horse. Scout also will explore the tack room and learn about the equipment and its care.
IPs can be purchased separately from the council store.
An optional introductory 1/2 hour lesson is also available directly after this program (see Horse Sense Riding Lesson program description).

Registration deadline is April 17 or when 25 Scouts register.

Plant Life IP Program on Saturday, June 5

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts is holding a Plant Life IP Program on Saturday, June 5 at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in Boylston for Cadette, Senior, & Ambassador Scouts room 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Juliette Scouts in grades 6-12 may register. Troops and individual Scouts may register. Troops should adhere to safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts must attend with adult.
PROGRAM: Explore the world of plants and gardening at Tower Hill Botanic Garden. Find out what you need to start your own garden while you try out different kinds of gardening tools, learn about different soils, garden pests and more. Discover the beauty of nature at Tower Hill through a guided tour and go home with a new plant ... one that wasn’t grown from a seed!
Scouts will complete five of the requirements for the Plant Life Interest Project. The patch will be provided, however you will need to complete additional activities on your own to fully earn the award.

Registration cost is $12 per Scout and $8 per leader/adult.
Registration deadline is May 7 or when 50 Scouts have registered.

Medieval IP Event on May 16 for Cadette, Senior, & Ambassador Scouts

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts will host an Museum Discovery IP - Medieval Style Program at Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester on Sunday, May 16, from noon to 3 p.m. for Cadette, Senior, & Ambassador Scouts. Juliette Scouts in grades 6-12 may also register.
IP PROGRAM: Discover Higgins Armory Museum in a whole new way! Earn your Museum Discovery IP while you learn about the history of the museum, where all the wonderful items came from, how they’re stored and so much more! While connecting with the museum’s staff you’ll learn about museum careers as well as other related careers and you’ll find out about volunteer opportunities - ever thought about working in a museum or helping out at a medieval workshop, presentation or faire? Higgins is a great place to do that just! In this workshop you'll find out how! Discover, Connect and Take Action…all in one workshop!
This program is for Troops & individual Scouts. Troops must follow safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

Girl Scouts Take Over the Berkshire Museum on Saturday, May 1

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! Girl Scouts Take Over the Berkshire Museum.
Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council & the Berkshire Museum are co-hosting this special program for Brownie, Junior, & Cadette Scouts on Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Juliette Scouts in grades 2-8 may also register.
Program: Take part in a variety of hands-on and interactive workshops in toy making, nature exploration and artistic expression.
Brownies can earn their Around the World & Animals Try-Its.
Juniors can earn their Toy Maker & Visual Arts Badges.
Cadettes can earn a Museum Patch.
NOTE: Troops must provide one adult for every 10 Scouts.
Bring a bag lunch and beverage.
Troops and individual Scouts may register. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

Self-Defense IP Workshop on April 10

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts will hold an Your Best Defense IP Workshop for Scouts in grades 6-12 at McCoys Action Karate in Auburn on Saturday, April 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. Troops and Individual Scouts may register. Safety-wise rules apply. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.
Workshop: Give your body and brain a work-out at this exciting high energy event! Learn ways to keep you and your friends safe while learning basic self-defense techniques. Scouts will even get to test your new skills in a mock attack. Leave walking tall and proud!
Girls will be split by age level and will be working separately (be sure to note your grade on your registration form). Scouts will complete most of the requirements for the IP at the workshop, but will need to complete some of the activities on your own to fully earn the award.
IP is included.
