Leaders & Adults within safety-wise limits FREE. Over Safety-wise limits must pay $6.
($3 additional for skates – pay this at the door.)
Scouts & adult may bring their own inline skates.

Registration is confirmed with a check made payable to "Framingham Girl Scouts"
FOOD: Troops may bring a plate of cupcakes or a cake to share. Please do not bring any other food or drinks. It is not allowed! Roller Kingdom food counter will sell pizza, hot dogs, drinks, and snacks at any additional cost.
Please Note: This is a troop event. Chaperones MUST be limited to safetywise ratios. Additional adult will be charged $6. NO SIBLINGS!
Directions: Take Rt. 495 north to exit 26 (Rt 62 east). Just before the Dodge dealership watch for signs on the right. Or take Rt. 85 north to Rt. 62 west and it is just after the Dodge dealership.

RIVERDANCE ON ICE - Saturday, Oct 16
FRAMINGHAM GIRL SCOUTS - OPTIONAL TROOP & JULIETTE SCOUT EVENT
Riverdance on Ice - Saturday, Oct 16 at 7 p.m. -- ONE NIGHT ONLY
Riverdance on Ice combines the music and artistry of a complete Riverdance™ stage show in unison with on-ice routines from Olympic, World, and National champion figure skaters. A stellar cast will perform live including 2010 Olympic Bronze Medalist Joannie Rochette, World Silver Medalists Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto, World Champion Todd Eldridge and many others.
There are 2 price ranges
> 1) GS Discount Tickets at $37 for rows 13-16 (regular cost -$42)
> 2) GROUP tickets for rows 17-18-19 at $22

(Sorry, this is a quick turnaround due to the one night only.)

I will be booking with the Tsongas arena on Friday morning, if we have a minimum of 12 tickets, which is likely as I already have 8 who have expressed interest.

Girl Scout Night at the Ringling Bros Circus - Oct 15
TROOPS,
I have made arrangements for Framingham Girl Scouts to receive DISCOUNTED tickets with Ringling Bros Circus on Friday night, Oct 15.
Show starts at 7 p.m. There likely will be a pre-show event as this has been declared Girl Scout Night. (As soon as I have more details, I will post.)
Cost is $15.75 per ticket per Scout.
Seats are in Loge 8 - rows 20-24.
(Loge tickets are selling for $25 & $30 plus fees at Ticketmaster.)
Tickets will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.
There are 30 tickets available.
NOTE: Parents & siblings may attend at the Scout price of $15.75 each.
Event is open to all Girl Scout levels - Daisy through Ambassador.
Juliette Scouts may also attend with a guardian/parent.
Please e-mail me with how many tickets your Troop would like.
Deadline to reserve tickets is Friday, Sept 24.

Girl Scout Science Workshop

Place: St. Bridget School Hall, Worcester Road (Rte 9) Eastbound, Framingham,
Date: Sunday, Octoter 3, 2010
Time: 1:30-3:30pm
Who: All Girl Scout Levels
Cost: $6 per Brownie or Junior (covers cost of Participation Patch and supplies)

Cadettes and Seniors who volunteer are free & will receive a Participation Patch

Brownie Try-It = Science in Action (pg. 126)
1. Science and Technology Hunt – give a list of things to find in the room that show how science and technology go together (i.e. things of plastic, from trees) – discuss how science and technology work together
2. Weird Glop – observe the difference between solid/liquid/gas, discuss how some things can be only one or all these (i.e. water)
3. Balloon Blowing – they will blow up a balloon without using their own breath - with baking soda and vinegar – discuss how that works
4. Butterfly of Many Colors – ink in black felt tip pen is made from chemicals of different colors, mixed together these colors look black, discuss how you can see the different colors
Junior Badge = Science Discovery (pg. 200)
1. Chemical Appearing Act – discover how you can use a chemical reaction to make an artistic design, sometimes when chemicals react with each other colors change
2. Light and Reflection – make a simple kaleidoscope – which relies on reflected light to create its special effects
3. Water Tricks – why does the needle float, how many drops of water can you get to stay on the penny, what happens when soap meets the skin of water molecules on the penny and why
4. See What? – how is your brain challenged by optical illusions
5. Here's the Rub – discover how speed is affected by friction, how can you use what you learned when riding in a car or riding on your bike
6. Become a Scientist – more men enter fields of science and technology then women do, talk to a female scientist and find out: how she got interested in her field, who encouraged her to pursue science, where does she get information, which people are most supportive to her in her job

Welcome to the start of another Girl Scout year!
Welcome back Girl Scout leaders!!
First, I want to acknowledge outgoing Framingham Girl Scouts Town Coordinator Nancy Solomon. I want to thank Nancy for the endless volunteers hours she gave to the service unit and the cooperative attitude she always offered all the leaders. Nancy will still be involved with Framingham Girl Scouts but wanted to focus her efforts on her daughter's Troop at this time. I have agreed to be Town Coordinator, with help from Council. (If you have any ideas or thoughts, please contact me at spetroni@rcn.com.)
1) Many of the Framingham Troops took advantage of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM) Spring registration. Troops that have not registered, may pick up their registration packet at Plymouth Church. If you have any questions or issues, please contact our NEW Service Unit (SU) Registrar Mary Ann Sagar at masager5@.... (I want to thank out-going registrar Deb Brisbois for her many years of service.)
2) Troop Coordinator Lauren Fawell will be holding registration for NEW Scouts, leaders, & adult volunteers on:
* Sunday, Oct 3 at 2 p.m. at St. Bridget School
* Monday, Oct 4 at First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.
Council will be delivering the flyers for the FPS & other schools in town this week. I know a couple of our leaders are involved with the PTOs and it would be much appreciated if you could take the flyers for your school. Please e-mail me if you can pick up and deliver flyers for your school. Distribution will take place on Friday, Sept 17. (Supt office has APPROVED the flyers.)
3) The first Service Unit event will be a Science Try-It & Badge Workshop on Sunday, Oct 3. I will be posting a flyer with details and registration information this week. Mary Ann is chairing the event.
4) There will be a meeting of the SERVICE UNIT TEAM MEMBERS ONLY on Tuesday, Sept 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Plymouth Church.
5) The first Framingham Scout leader (and adult volunteer) meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct 19 at 7 p.m. at Plymouth Church.

A. Girl Scout Sunday --St Bridget Church hosted a Mass on Sun, Mar 7 at 9 a.m. about 30 Girl Scouts from town attended & participated. It was a very nice ceremony
B.Girl Scout Bowling at Fairways, Natick Sat, March 6 -- about 175 girls and pals bowled, fun time
C.Town Bridging -- Susan Petroni is working of organizing possible locations are St Stevens and St Andrews and possible dates are late May early June, watch Yahoo leader Group for further updates

A. Girl Scout Sunday --St Bridget Church hosted a Mass on Sun, Mar 7 at 9 a.m. about 30 Girl Scouts from town attended & participated. It was a very nice ceremony
B.Girl Scout Bowling at Fairways, Natick Sat, March 6 -- about 175 girls and pals bowled, fun time
C.Town Bridging -- Susan Petroni is working of organizing possible locations are St Stevens and St Andrews and possible dates are late May early June, watch Yahoo leader Group for further updates

Framingham Girl Scouts Bowl
Almost 175 Scouts participated in the Framingham Girl Scouts Me & My Pal Bowling Event on Saturday, March 6. Scouts who participated each received a round bowling participation patch for the back of their vest or sash. The event was planned to coincide with national Girl Scout Week.

Framingham Girl Scouts to Hold Annual Me & My Pal Bowling Event on Saturday, March 6
Me and My Pal Bowling Event
Sponsored by the Town of Framingham Girl Scouts
Place: Fairways Bowling, Rt. 9, Natick
Date: Saturday, March 6, 2010
Time slot options:
* A = 12:45 – 2:15
* B = 2:15 to 3:45
Who: All Girl Scout Levels, registered girls and their “pal”
A “pal” is defined as an adult 18 or older who is a significant person in the girl’s life.
Cost: $7.50 per girl and $6 per pal (covers cost of bowling, shoe rental, & patch)
*Make checks payable to “Town of Framingham Girl Scouts”
Registration deadline: March 2.

15 minutes = Check in, patches given to troop leader or representative, girls and their pals assigned to lanes and pick up their bowling shoes
60 minutes = Bowl (lanes are automatically timed, don’t be late or you may miss bowling time)
15 minutes = Return shoes
Again This Year: door prizes for each level/time slot, must be present to win – fill out slip at check in and names will be drawn while the girls are bowling
Troop leaders must return the registration form ASAP.
Regstation forms can be downloaded from the leder yahoo group.
Do not wait for the deadline, this event fills up early each year.
All girls and pals must be pre-registered, no walk-ins, no money at the door.
* Individual registrations are also accepted by completing the form and sending payment.

Everyone is encouraged to wear their uniforms and sit together in the reserved pews near the front of the church.
It is recommended that the girls arrive by 8:45 a.m. to be seated in the reserved area. It is encouraged to have Safety-wise adults sit with the girls in the reserved section.
As a reminder we are there representing the Town of Framingham Girl Scouts and are guests to the church, please help keep the girls quiet before, during and after the Mass.
Leaders please call/e-mail Mary Ann by the end of February for the following:
1. Those who would like to participate in the Mass as readers, altar servers, gift bearers, or door greeters. Please call early for this first come first serve opportunity.
2. With an approximate number of attendees to ensure adequate seating and for your troop’s number to be displayed at the end of the pew.
Final decision for helpers will be made on Feb. 28th
Since this will be a family event an Activity Application Form for the town will NOT be completed. Feel free to complete the form for your Troop if you wish.

Service Unit Minutes from 1.12.10

* COOKIES: Cookie Chair = Helena at helenasic@... She is having trouble securing a "drop off site" for cookies this year and would appreciate any suggestions. If we can not get one, we will need to do a "trailer drop." A truck comes to a specified parking lot and the town has ONE hour to have each Troop pull up, off-load their own cookies, have them checked and then drive off. It would require that ALL troops send a representative during this small window of time (the delivery company picks the time not us)

* Cookie Creations: An adult fundraiser to support GSEM, anyone may attend (not limited to GS), local chefs "whip up" an original creation using one of the eight varieties of GS cookies, Celebrity Judges will determine "Best Overall Dessert" and attendees will choose the "Crowd Favorite." complimentary appetizers, cash bar, silent auction, and raffle drawing. Tickets are $30 each or 2 for $50, RSVP: www.girlscoutseasternmass.org or 857-453-5336.

* Thurs, Jan 28 from 6-8pm at The Fairmont Copley Plaza, Boston

Framingham Scouts Holiday Sing-A-Long At Memorial Building
More than 50 Girl Scouts from Framingham led the crowd in a holiday sing-a-long tonight in anticipation of Santa & Mrs. Claus arriving on a firetruck at the Memorial Building. Then, the Scouts helped Santa count down to the lighting of the Framingham Christmas Tree. Afterwards, Scouts, families, and other residents were treated to hot cocoa and a performance by the all-elementary school band.

Cookie University Tuesday Night, Dec. 1
Cookie University will be held for all Troops Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Plymouth Church, off Edgell Road. Leaders MUST contact Helena so the Troop's bag will be ready. All new Troops and new Cookie Moms must stay for the estimated one-hour presntation. For additional information visit the Yahoo leader group board or contact your Troop leader.

Holiday Sing-a-long & Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 4th
The Town will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 4th at 6 p.m. The Girl Scouts have been invited to perform a holiday sing-along in anticipation of Santa's arrival. Before the Service Unit of Framingham Girl Scouts will accept the invitation, the service unit is trying to gauge how many Troops and Scouts plan to participate.

If your Troop would like to participate, or if there are a few girls in your Troop, whom would like to participate, please e-mail on the Yahoo Leader Group, the Troop #, # of Scouts, name of leader whom will be present, first-aider whom will be present, etc..
