Oil Up Junior Badge Workshop on Nov. 5th in Westwood

Oil Up Badge Workshop.
GET SMART.
An oil tanker leaks thousands of gallons of oil on a beach, and rescue workers rush to save the wildlife, but how? As you earn the Oil Up! badge, you simulate your own rescue effort, and learn about the petroleum products you use every day.

Springfield Overnight Deadline Approaching

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts in connection with the Springfield Science Museum is hosting an overnight for Brownies & Junior Scouts on Friday, May 21 from 6 p.m. through Saturday, May 22 at 9 a.m.
Girls will discover a variety of nature and science related information while connecting with sister Girl Scouts and participating in fun, hands on activities.
Girls will sleep beside a coral reef or next to live animals or the Tyrannosaurus.
An evening pizza party and light breakfast is included.
Everyone views the planetarium show and screen prints their own t-shirt.
Girls will complete requirements for a Try It or badge.
The cost of the badge is not included.
Free and secure parking is available.
This event is for groups and individual Scouts, including Juliette Scouts.
Registration fee is $35 per Scout and $30 per leader and adult.
Troops please adhere to safety-wise ratios.
Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.
Registration deadline is May 7 or when 120 people have registered.

For the Birds Workshop for Junior Scouts on Saturday, May 15 in Worcester

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is offering a For the Birds badge Workshop for Junior Scouts at Broad Meadow Brook in Worcester on Saturday, May 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 also may register. Troops and individual Scouts may register. Troops should adhere to safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult. Adults may be expected to help at the workshop.
Badge workshop: Become an ornithologist (a person who studies birds) while earning Our Council's Own For the Birds Badge as we explore the fascinating world of birds. Learn about beak adaptations, bird calls, feathers, migrations and so much more. Learn from naturalists and go for a hike on the sanctuary grounds for a bit of bird watching!
The badge is not included in the registration price and must be purchased at GSCWM Store, like Worcester.

Making Hobbies Badge Workshop for Junior Scouts at Camp Green Eyrie during School Vacation Week on Thursday, April 22

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts is hosting a Making Hobbies Badge Workshop during School Vacation Week for Junior Scouts. It's Not Easy Being Green: Making Hobbies Badge Workshop will be held at Camp Green Eyrie in Harvard on Thursday, April 22 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Troops and Individual Scouts may register. Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may register. Troops should adhere to safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts should attend with an adult.
BADGE WORKSHOP: Using our "inner green" we will explore the Making Hobbies Badge (included in registration fee). Solving the riddle "What do we do now?" the group will cooperatively create items in our recycle station. We'll get inspired as we work together as a team to craft and re-craft. Scouts will complete pieces and then be judged by peers for the honor of display in the Chair City Artisan's Gallery. This workshop will also explore owning a craft business as well as crafting safety.

Visual Arts Badge Workshop on Sunday, April 11 at Worcester Art Museum

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts is hosting a Badge Workshop on Visual Arts at the Worcester Art Museum on Junior Scouts on Sunday, April 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. Individual Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may register.
Program: Tour the museum galleries for inspiration and sketch ideas to bring back to the studio. Then pick up your paint brush and work with a museum instructor to learn about color, design, perspective and composition in your own creative work of art. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the career of an artist/art teacher during the workshop. Have fun exploring the galleries and making art in the museum's studios while working towards your Visual Arts Badge! Includes a custom tailored, 30-minute guided tour followed by a 90-minute creative studio activity.
Troops and individual Scouts may register. Troops should adhere to safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts should attend with an adult.

Humans & Habitats Badge Program For Junior Scouts on April10 at the Heifer Learning Center at Overlook Farm in Rutland

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts is hosting a Humans & Habitats Badge Workshop for Junior Scouts in Rutland at the Heifer Learning Center at Overlook Farm on
Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Juliette Scouts in grades 4 7 5 may also register. Troops and individual Scouts may register. Troops must follow safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.
PROGRAM: While preparing and eating a Global Village meal, discover how culture is reflected in the food we eat and how we prepare it. Investigate the impact of food choices and examine issues surrounding population and resource distribution. This program qualifies for the Humans & Habitats Badge (included in the registration price).
You may wish to provide a snack for the ride home as the “meal” consists of a typical simple lunch that would be prepared in a culture other than the U.S. (i.e. quinoa and vegetable stew-Peru).

Swimming Badge Program for Junior Scouts on April 24 in Worcester

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council will host a Swimming Badge Program for Junior Scouts on Swimming Badge at the YWCA in Worcester on Saturday, April 24 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. for Junior Scouts. Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may also register.
BADGE PROGRAM: Looking for a fun way to earn the Junior Swimming Badge? Girls will work in small groups, choosing from 8 stations. After completing 6 stations, Scouts will have earned the badge! There will also be time for free swim and a chance to watch a performance of the Synchro-maids synchronized swim team!
NOTE: Badges can be purchased separately at the Council store.
Troops and individual Scouts may register. Troops must follow safety-wise rules. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

6-Week Archery Program Offered for Junior Scouts in Waltham

Take Aim: The 6 Mondays we will meet are: April 5, April 12, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 17.
There is no program Monday April 19 because of April Vacation.
Once you’ve learned the basics of archery, take the challenge to complete the Ultimate Archer’s Quest!
Spend six Monday sessions improving your individual archery skills as you get to know other girls your age.
Girls will have the chance to earn the Archery Badge by participating in this program.
Aim for bulls eye and see just what you can accomplish during these session!
Date: Start date is Monday, April 5

4 to 5:30 p.m.
Scout Level: Junior
Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may also register.
Location: Camp Cedar Hill, 265 Beaver Street, in Waltham.

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! Girl Scouts Take Over the Berkshire Museum.
Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council & the Berkshire Museum are co-hosting this special program for Brownie, Junior, & Cadette Scouts on Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Juliette Scouts in grades 2-8 may also register.
Program: Take part in a variety of hands-on and interactive workshops in toy making, nature exploration and artistic expression.
Brownies can earn their Around the World & Animals Try-Its.
Juniors can earn their Toy Maker & Visual Arts Badges.
Cadettes can earn a Museum Patch.
NOTE: Troops must provide one adult for every 10 Scouts.
Bring a bag lunch and beverage.
Troops and individual Scouts may register. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

Horse Rider Badge Program for Junior Scouts on Saturday, April 24 at Camp Marshall in Spencer

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is offering a Horse Rider
badge program for Junior Scouts at Camp Marshall in Spencer on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may also register.
Badge program: Work towards earning your Horse Rider Badge in this more advanced Junior level horse program! Scouts will expand upon the things you learned while earning your Horse Fan Badge and spend more time with the horses!
An optional introductory 1/2 hour riding lesson is also available directly after this program (See Horse Rider Lesson program).
Badge is not included in the registration cost. Badge can be purchased separately at the Council store.
***Prerequisite: Completion of Horse Fan Badge.
Troops and individual Scouts can register. Safety-wise rules apply to Troops. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is offering a Horse Fan Badge Workshop for Junior Scouts at Camp Marhsall in Spencer on Saturday, April 10, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may also register.
Horse Fan Badge program: learn about grooming, the care of horses, the equipment used and more! A fun jam-packed beginners horse program during which each Scout will end the day with a short ride on a horse! If the sound of a neigh makes your day, then this program is for you! Badge is not included in the registration cost and can be purchased separately at the Council store.

Wildlife Badge Program for Juniors on March 20

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts and Broad Meadow Brook will host a special program for Junior Scouts in Worcester on Saturday, march 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may also register.
Wildlife program: Try your hand at observing and helping some of the wildlife that lives in your community. Earn your Wildlife Badge while you learn our state's wildlife symbols and different animals or plants that are endangered in Massachusetts. Learn how the sanctuary tries to protect them and learn how you can TAKE ACTION too! Lots of fun activities!
For Troops and individual scouts.

Making Music Program on Thursday, April 8

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council is offering a special Making Music Try-It Workshop program on Thursday night, April 8 at Indian Hill Music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Daisy, Brownie, & Junior Scouts may register, along with Juliette Scouts in grades K-5.
Connect with Maestro Bruce Hangen and the Orchestra of Indian Hill for a fun-filled, educational evening to include: exploration of musical instruments, introduction to famous composers and the stories behind their music, discovery of musical patterns and rhythms, and listen to a live orchestra rehearsal.
Brownies and Juniors will complete their Making Music Try-It or Badge.
Pizza dinner included.
NOTE:
This is an early release day for Framingham Public Schools.
Troops and Individual Scout may register. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

World Neighbors Badge Workshop on April 10 for Junior Scouts at the Heifer Learner Center at Overlook Farm

Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council and the Heifer Learning Center at Overlook Farm is offering a World Neighbors Badge workshop for Junior Scouts on Saturday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may also register.
Program info: Your neighbors are not just the ones who live nearby. Your neighbors are also the people who live all over the globe. Learn about them as you work on some of the requirements to earn your World Neighbors Badge.
The program includes free time in the museum after the program.
Groups may bring a bag lunch and eat in a designated area in the museum.
An afternoon session will be added if the morning session fills.
Troops and Individual Scouts may register. Individual Scouts must attend with an adult.

Old Sturbridge Village Hosts Girl Scout Day on March 27

Girl Scout Day is for Girl Scouts of all ages who are interested in learning more about multi-culturalism in New England in the early 19th century. Learn about how minority women paved a way for themselves and those after them. Meet Molly Geet, a Native American Doctress; Mumbet, a slave who fought for her freedom in the Massachusetts court system and won; and Mary Culligan, an Irish Immigrant and hired-hand.
Register online starting Feb. 24.
Also, inspired by Women's History Month, girls can explore the everyday lives of girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Visit the animals and the costumed Villagers throughout the Countryside and the Center Village.
If time permits, consider making a quick craft in the Hands-on Crafts Center; $5-10 per activity - first come, first served; some age and safety restrictions apply.
Sign up starting Feb. 24 to participate in 50-minute hands-on Studios.
These activities are designed to meet Brownies Try-Its and Junior Girl Scout Badge requirements.
Additional Details:
•This event is for Groups and Individual Scouts w/an Adult - Family Members too!
•Admission is $7 per Scout (ages 5-17); one adult per Scout also pays the special $7 Scout Day rate. Additional Adults pay the Adult Admission rate of $20. (Admission rate includes most Village activities and an Old Sturbridge Village patch for the Scout.) Members, Sturbridge residents, and children under three are free; Studio sessions are $5 per activity per child; Hands-on Crafts Center Activities are $5-10 per activity per child.
•We request that Scouts wear their uniforms.
•Scouts will receive an activity sheet to complete during their visit. Once completed, Scouts go to the Gift Shop to receive an OSV patch.

Horse Sampler Program on March 6 in Holliston for Junior Scouts

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts and Lil Folk Farm is offering a Horse Sampler program on March 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Holliston for Junior Scouts. Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5 may register, also.
Do you have a desire to learn more about horseback riding?
Come spend the afternoon with your fellow Girl Scouts for a riding sampler.
Junior Scouts will learn to groom horses, learn about care and feeding, learn to lead a horse, and learn to mount and steer a horse on their own.
This program meets some badge requirements for Juniors.
The program takes place at Lil Folk Farm, 1070 Washington St. in Holliston.
Registration is $15 per Scout. Leaders are free.
Juliette & Individual Scouts may register but must attend with an adult chaperone.

Aerospace Program for Junior Scouts at WPI in Worcester

Junior Scouts can earn the Aerospace Badge while attending this fun program, sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council at WPI in Worcester on Saturday, March 27 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Junior Scouts (and Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5) will learn about NASA, design a space station, visit the wind tunnel lab, launch mini rockets and have a fun paper-airplane contest. All this and more, while being led through the Boldactivities by these terrific student mentors.
This is another popular WPI program that fill up quickly. (Registration ends on March 5 or when 60 Scouts register.)
Badges are not included. Badges can be purchased at the Worcester council store.

Engineering Program for Juniors at WPI in Worcester

Junior Girl Scouts connect with students from WPI's Society of Women Engineers as they lead you through fun activities.
Junior Scouts (and Juliette Scouts in grades 4 & 5) will earn Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts Council's Women in Engineering Badge while creating and inventing, building structures and designing your own dream house!
Scouts will have a chance to participate in a fun, interactive demonstration with WPI's robotics team. These students are great role models and put on a super program! This one fills up fast, so sign up early! (Registration deadline is March 5 or when 60 Scouts register.)
Badges can be purchased separately at the Worcester Council store

The special program Women in Engineering, will be held at Worcester (WPI) on Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Framingham Girl Scouts to Hold Annual Me & My Pal Bowling Event on Saturday, March 6

Me and My Pal Bowling Event
Sponsored by the Town of Framingham Girl Scouts

Place: Fairways Bowling, Rt. 9, Natick
Date: Saturday, March 6, 2010
Time slot options:
* A = 12:45 – 2:15
* B = 2:15 to 3:45
Who: All Girl Scout Levels, registered girls and their “pal”
A “pal” is defined as an adult 18 or older who is a significant person in the girl’s life.
Cost: $7.50 per girl and $6 per pal (covers cost of bowling, shoe rental, & patch)
*Make checks payable to “Town of Framingham Girl Scouts
Registration deadline: March 2.

***Schedule:
15 minutes
= Check in, patches given to troop leader or representative, girls and their pals assigned to lanes and pick up their bowling shoes

Again This Year: door prizes for each level/time slot, must be present to win – fill out slip at check in and names will be drawn while the girls are bowling

Troop leaders must return the registration form ASAP.

All girls and pals must be pre-registered, no walk-ins, no money at the door.
